The Eve of Christmas Eve!

Let the holiday excitement really begin! Christmas is upon us!!

When I was growing up my family celebrated "Lil' Lil' L'Often", which is the Eve of Christmas Eve. On the evening of the 23rd we were allowed to open one present. It was usually something small, but enough to keep us tided over until the big day. Well, until the next evening when e opened gifts from the grandparents.

Now that I'm a parent I TOTALLY get this holiday (even if Michael thinks it is made up)! One little gift on the 23rd keeps the peace. It will hopefully keep the children happy and quite while you take care of all the final holiday preparations.

In our case I honestly don't know who enjoyed the gift more. Greyson or Michael? They spent the next hour building (M) and destroying (G) the train set.

This train set is AMAZING! Over the summer Michael bought a train table and box of "pre-loved" train track and cars from someone at work for like $150.00. Well this is now the 3rd time we've given Greyson train pieces from the box and we will probably be able to give him a bunch of it at least 2 more times. GOLD MINE! I think this train set can easily go down and one of the best purchases we have ever made.

Happy "Lil' Lil' L'Often" or Eve of Christmas Eve! May your holiday be bright and filled with joy!

My Little Climber - Part Two

Greyson was playing in the kitchen today while I made dinner. I turned around and he was in his highchair. I had not put him there. I put him down and he proceeded to climb back in. He did this 4 more time before I grabbed the camera. I know it looks likes he's going to fall, but this kid is a pro when it comes to this and gets mad when I try to help him. His independent streak is going to give me grey hair (he is so aptly named).

He's a climber, no doubt about it. This need to climb is a trait he picked up from me, and I from my dad. I'm trying to take comfort in the fact that we are both survived the climbing phase....

I know that any day now I'm going to find him on top of the refrigerator.

Note that he is trying to buckle himself in. We will be in even more trouble once he figures out how to unbuckle that thing.

My Little Climber - Part One

Greyson does this MANY times a day. EVERY DAY. We tried moving the chair, thinking that would stop him, but nope - he managed to get up on to the end table without the chair. Since that seemed more dangerous so we moved the chair back.
He'll make this loop 5 or 6 times in a row.

Today Greyson stood at the wheelbarrow and demanded to push it around the yard. He's very helpful!

What a Difference A Year Makes

greyson098
March 9th, 2009

He was so little - but still more then double his birth-weight last March. When this photo was taken Greyson had been home with us for only 45 days. At that point he had still spent more time in the NICU then he had with us. It is so weird to think about that. Some times I forget that his first 2 months weren't spent at home. And then I remember, and I get a little sad at the time we missed together.

Who would have thought that one year later he'd be doing this?

I am astonished every day by the strides Greyson has taken this past year. He's surpassing my expectations at every turn and keeping me on my toes.

I thank the wonderful NICU staff at OPRMC and the March of Dimes for getting him home to us so we can watch him grow...and now walk! We'll be saying thanks again by walking in the March for Babies - this year Greyson will be walking at least part of it on his own two feet!

To those who have donated to us already, THANK YOU!
And to those who haven't yet - just click here. The walk in is 50 days and we are not quite to half our goal yet. Please help us get there!

At the keyboard

Let's face it, much of my day is spent on the computer. Probably too much to be honest. It's no surprise that Greyson should be interested in it too. So I was really happy to find some free, easy and somewhat educational games for him to play. So far he's only interested in the ABC's Zoo Game.

Yes, computer games even at one year old. What is the world coming to?

He loved it! I am rationing him to 2 trips through the alphabet at a time and I only let him play every few days. But he has a lot of fun and is learning to make some new animal sounds.

A Winter Trip to the Zoo!

It was kind of snowy and cold today, but since we skipped our usual Saturday outing (a trip to the Library and then to the Grocery Store) I felt like we needed to get out of the house for a bit. So we decided to go to the zoo. Our zoo has two indoor exhibit spaces, the "Tropics" and the "Discovery Barn".

We went to the Tropics first where Michael tried to blend in with a White-Cheeked Gibbon.

Then we saw the sweetest Mommy and Baby Monkeys.

They were so sweet to watch. It just reminded me how we are both mammals and what that means. According to the zoo's website the baby was born on "Wednesday, November 4, 2009. A first in the new Tropics exhibit, a new Blue Monkey baby was born to mom Mom, Abby, who came to K.C. from the Omaha Zoo, and Dad, Indigo, who hails from Texas. Abby and Indigo just met this spring and have bonded quite quickly, finally becoming a family in Fall 2009." They were are really sweet family unit.

After the Tropics we headed over to the Discovery Barn where Greyson got to run around. He loved the "Highlighter Monkeys" - sorry I don't remember what they are called...

Greyson and the Monkey share a moment.

Seriously, this Monkey and Greyson played together for a good 15 minutes.

Then Greyson practiced his climbing.

And we finished off the day with several trips down the Froggy Slide. He would not go down on his bum, but loved going down on his tummy.

It was a really nice trip. We had the place almost to ourselves. I can't wait to do it again.
