On November 20th, 2008 I woke up at 1:00 in the morning and found that I had been bleeding all night - trailing blood from the bed to the bathroom. It came in spurts, which I realized much later were contractions. The ambulance was called and I remained strangely calm, thanks to the strong kicks from Greyson. He kept me sane by letting me know that he was okay.
At the hospital I was diagnosed with Placenta Previa. I was given drugs to stop my labor and told to stay put as long as possible. 11 days later, after spending both Thanksgiving and our 2nd anniversary on hospitalized bedrest, I had my 4th bleeding episode and it was determined that for everyone's safety Greyson would have to be born.
He was born on December 1st, 2008 at 11:57pm weighing 3 pounds, 4 ounces and was 15 inches long. He was good sized for his gestation.
The morning after his birth.
After 52 days in the NICU at Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Greyson was finally healthy enough to come home with us! On the day he came home he weighed 6 pounds and 5 ounces, just 3 ounces shy of doubling his birth weight. He was 19 inches long.
One week after coming home.
Now Greyson is a happy, healthy and active 7 year old. He is wrapping up 1st grade where he does so well. He's smart, funny and has a passion for lego. If you met Greyson today you would never know he had such a rocky start!
