6 month check-up

Greyson had his 6 month appointment today. Here's the run-down:
  • Weight - 15 pounds 10 ounces (20%) Same % as 4 months
  • Height - 25.5 inches (20%) Up from 10% at 4 months
  • Head - 17.25 inches (50%) Up from 40% at 4 months...he has LOTS of Brains!
Over all he looks great! They did have to mess with his boy parts because his circ. is re-fusing. It looked a little gross, but Grey did just fine. Now we have to make sure we push things back as he grows.

I also talked to the pediatrician about food allergies. Since I have them in spades I wanted to make sure we were taking the right steps to keep Greyson safe. It always makes me roll my eyes when a doctor asks what I'm allergic to then tells me to not feed him those things. Well duh! I can't TOUCH peanut butter that would make it a little hard for me to feed it to my son. We now have the amount of Benadryl to give Greyson should he have a problem. It's scary because everyone says that hives or redness is the first sign but that never happens to me so I don't know how Grey will react to anything. Just another reason to take solids very slowly.

I also got the new dosage of Tylenol for Greyson. Turns out we were only giving him a 1/2 dose - no wonder it didn't help for long. I'm just ready for this blasted tooth to come in and stop bothering my sweet baby!

I've also been concerned because Greyson has some dry patches where his skin is extra thick and dry. I mentioned this and the doctor said it could be a precursor to allergies of some sort. No real surprise - look at his genetics. We are just supposed to put lotion on the spots (California Baby Super Sensitive Everyday Lotion - it is fantastic and made without nut oils, gluten, soy, oat or dairy so it is allergy friendly!) and if it turns red we should give them a call.

So all in all it wasn't a bad trip. He did get two shots and an oral vaccine, but he took them in stride. Now my big man is asleep in my lap from his big day.

Weigh In

Greyson came in at 8lbs 4oz yesterday! That is still clearly below the 3% on the growth chart for an 11 week old boy. But he is making a perfect curve on the growth chart and I think by the end of the year he will have caught up. He is already 5 pounds bigger than when he was born and has started to out grow more things. YEAH!

Shots

Yesterday Greyson had his 2 month check-up. He is now 8lbs 4oz now and is growing right on target based on his starting weight. He seems huge to me. He is five pounds bigger than he was at birth.

From the moment we entered the patient room Greyson became hysterical. Screaming and crying and carrying on in a way I've never seen. I could get him to calm down a little by holding him close and rocking. Then he received three shots! I really have mixed emotions about these because it's so much in to one little guy. We did hold off on the Hep B vaccine but he did get his Synagis - RSV injection. Greyson was not a happy little man.

Close up his band-aids. 3 sticks on chubby thighs.

Greyson freaking out. Not that I can blame him!

The Little Bird is a Little Tease!

At todays doctor's appointment they did the doppler heartbeat thing and it was kind of amazing. Nicki, best nurse ever, found the heartbeat right away. And as soon as the words "there's the heartbeat" were out of her mouth it was gone. She kept moving the wand around trying to find it again. She'd get it for a second and then - gone again. The little guy was being such a tease! He must of been doing flips in there this week.

When she first found the HB is was on the far left side of my abdomen and we ended up getting him cornered in the far right side just long enough that she could count the beats. We are still in the 150's.

The next appointment is the big one! In one month we will know if my gut instinct is correct or if everyone else was right.

The Little Bird Waved at Me!

I had an appointment today to follow-up with the weekend's bleeding. They couldn't find the heartbeat with the doppler so they did an ultrasound. It was scary when they couldn't find him, but it was nice to get an ultrasound. It turns out the little bird was laying with the top of his head facing my belly button - so they couldn't get a good read. Then he moved a round a little - which was so amazing to see. And then he waved at me! I saw his little are go back and forth and then he put it behind his head. The picture is wonderful because it looks like he is just kicking back and relaxing.
It was wonderful to get a peek at how much he has grown.

And no, I don't know for sure it is a boy. All the baby "parts" were out of view and they don't really like to make that guess until further along in the pregnancy - we are schuled for our 20 week appointment to find that out. But I did have a dream on Friday night that we found out the bird was a boy. I've thought that all along too. Of course his heart rate is still high 153 - which would lead one to believe the bird is a girl. Either way, happy, healthy baby is the goal. Boy or Girl.
