12 month Dr's Visit

Greyson had his 1 year appointment at the pediatricians on Friday. He weighed in at 20lbs 7oz (20th%), 29.75 inches (50th%) and a giant head (85th%). I love seeing how big he's gotten, especially the height! I'm a shorty and it's cool seeing that he really does take after his daddy, this boy is going to be tall!

Greyson got 2 shots but nothing new this time. He only cried for a little bit this time. Then he had to go get blood drawn so he could be tested for lead since we have an older home. Greyson didn't even flinch when they drew blood. I held him and had trouble watching, but he did great!

The bad news...he has elevated lead levels. They want the levels under 10, over 15 is dangerous and Greyson's was a 12. Bummer. So my house is poisoning my son! I'm sick over this. I feel like a horrible parent! So now we have to have someone come out and test the house.

After doing some research we think the lead is coming from the mini-blinds in Greyson's room. They were up when we bought the house, so I imagine they are pretty old and Greyson loves to play with them. So I'm not letting him touch them anymore and I'll be replacing them ASAP - probably tomorrow. They will re-test in 3 months. Here's the info I found about lead in mini-blinds. It really makes me worry about how many everyday objects in our lives are really bad for us?

That's so scary! I think they sell a at home lead test at Home Depot, I was going to get one and test different things around the house madi plays with. I know toys and such shouldn't contain them now, but I will feel better checking for myself! Good luck.

well crap! now we have to worry that lead can leach out from vinyl?
That seems so counter-intuitive to me.

Then again, who really knows but a chemist what goes into the making of our plastic world nowadays.

I hope its as easy a fix as simply replacing those blinds!
