I am thankful for:
- Getting pregnant in the first place. There are so many woman who are never able to conceive or carry a baby to viability.
- My wonderful OBGYN who really listened to me, and worked hard to keep both Greyson and I safe and healthy. She is an amazing doctor who supported me through all the challenges of getting Greyson here.
- The ultrasound tech, Melody, who kept me sane through my early bleeding episodes and Greyson's tendency to run away from the Doppler so we couldn't get a heartbeat. Also, her hugs. I got one from her when she had to tell me that we had lost our first baby, that was a sad but much needed hug. Then again from joy when she confirmed that Greyson was still with us after my bleeding episodes at 8 and 13 weeks.
- Greyson's super strong kicks that let me know he was still with me when I woke up bleeding at 27 weeks. His kicks kept me calm and collected on that cold and scary ride to the hospital.
-The steroid shots that gave Grey's lungs a chance to get going and the Surfactant that kept them going.
- Michael, who was my rock through all of this, who brought our anniversary dinner to my bedside at the hospital, who held me when I cried, who made me laugh through all the worry, who is my best friend and the best dad ever!
He just came into tell me about our son, who he followed up to the NICU after his birth.
-For Jodi, the nurse who was with me the night Greyson was born. She was the one who came in and told me that since I was bleeding (AGAIN) and having contractions that the Magnesium wasn't stopping and I was going to have to have Greyson now. I really hated her when she told me that. I kept thinking I was so close to 30 weeks, just let me hold him in for a few more days. It turns out she was a rock I needed. Since I had to be completely out for the birth, Michael couldn't be in the OR, so Jodi held my hand and then took the very first photos of DS. Photos that kept me going until the next day when I could finally see him myself.
- For the amazing NICU doctors who worked hard for my baby and helped him through his issues.
- For Ashley, the NICU nurse who took pity on me and let me hold Greyson for the first time. She will always have a special place in my heart for that.
That is her ladybug scrubs in the back.
- For the fabulous insurance coverage we have through Michael's work.
- For everyone who encouraged me to keep trying breastfeeding, it didn't work for months, but once it did it was great. I'm so happy that we stuck with it.
Yesterday, enjoying the sun and feeding my naked baby in the backyard!
- For our wonderful pediatrician who listens to me and respects my choices. I also love that he never treated Greyson differently because he was a preemie. At first I didn't like it, but now I do.
- For the fact that at 11 months no one can tell Greyson was ever a preemie.
- And strangely enough, for Greyson being a preemie. If he hadn't been one I would have stayed with my full time job and sent him to daycare. I would have missed so much. Now I work part-time and spend most of every day with my miracle. I am so thankful for that!
Greyson I'm so thankful for you!
