While my freezer is by no means bare it did make a size-able dent in my stores. It actually makes me a little nervous knowing that that is 250 ounces less I'll have for Greyson in my attempt to keep him in breastmilk for a year and a half. We are a third of the way through! He is now nursing so beautifully that it was time to share the wealth.

I'm Officially a Milk Donor!
I have been very, very lucky when it has come to producing milk. I've always had enough to meet Greyson's needs and then some. When he was in the NICU he was eating so little that I was able to store a days worth of milk 25+ ounces almost everyday from December 13th until he came home on January 20th. Although in an attempt to "rotate stock" we've used the milk from the 13th until the 27th of December. Since then I have still been able to freeze about 10 ounces about every-other day. Now that he is nursing most of the time and I'm showing no signs of slowing down my production I have decided that now is the time to donate. On Monday I'll be shipping off 250 ounces of breast milk. 150 ounces to a preemie girl who was adopted and therefore cannot be breastfed. I'm sending her my oldest milk since it was pumped when Greyson was still very much a preemie and milk adjusts to meet the needs of the child. I'm sending another 100 ounces to a woman with a 5 month old who cannot tolerate formula.

Congrats! My supply was awful from the stress. Kudos to you for having such a great supply!!!
Wow thats amazing!
Not only are you a hero to Greyson, but now to other babies as well! YOU ARE AN AMAZING WOMAN!
What an awesome thing to do! A long time ago in Cuba, when my grandfather was an infant, it was very common for more well to do mothers to delegate nursing to a working class mother who was lactating. Many of these mothers were already nursing their own baby and they would just take on the additional child. The mother who nursed my grandfather had a son his age and they became "milk brothers" and they maintained that bond for all of their lives.
So, I guess that's just a long way of saying that because of your generosity, Greyson now has two "milk siblings!" It's a beautiful thing!
That is awesome! Congrats on being able to do such a wonderful thing.
I'm so proud of you. Hero indeed. That has to feel so good. Way to go you!!!!!
Totally AWESOME, M! That is such an amazing donation. I had the same thing - I was *made* to have triplets. LOL I had rediculous quantities of milk but it took us about 6 months to use to use it all. What a blessing that we have this gift for our children!
Thank you for your comment on my blog. I do feel like I'm an awesome advocate for my kids... I hope they see it that way and not that I was always a pain to their doctors. :)
Take care,
Kara
