Yesterday marked the end of my first post bcp cycle. It’s been a long and terrible few weeks. I had cramps so bad they woke me up at night and made my legs shake and a flow so heavy that tampons proved worthless after less than 3 hours and even wearing 2 pads at night did not keep the sheets clean. It was miserable and I was very unpleasant to be around (I’m sure that Michael agrees). After close to 9 years on the bcp with little or no cramps, flows that could be easily controlled with a few tampons and a “lite day” liner, I had forgotten what “real” women go through. What they go through is not cool.
All week I kept thinking, “seriously, this is what it is like. It’s terrible, and messy.” But in the long run (and even the short run) it will be worth it. I can’t imagine taking hormones for nearly a decade can be good for anyone and it’s hard to grow our family while on them.
But today it’s finally over for approximately 22 days. Let the revelry begin!
