Mist Medicine

Greyson now has a nebulizer. Frankly I'm suprised we've gone this long without one. He's had amazingly string lungs for kid who started out with such bad ones. But he caught a virus this weekend (not sure where - and it doesn't really matter) that has done a number on my little boy. Still just a low-grade fever, but this time we get to add HIVES and a WHEEZE to the running nose and cough. The hives are what really worried me. He'd be covered in them one moment and then gone 10min later, 10 min after that they were back and worse! Then he added wheeze and off to the doctor we went. I am SOO happy our pediatricians office open 7 days a week!

Anyway they checked him out and said he needed a nebulizer treatment. So we did one in the office and it was TERRIBLE! He screamed the whole time like we were torturing him - which we probably were. He was one unhappy monkey.

They wrote us a script to get one for home, but trying to find one at 6:30pm on a Sunday night wasn't easy. The nurse at the office was AMAZING and called around to different pharmacies for us until she found one that was A) open and B) had one in stock.

We took it home and did the treatment before bed. It was a torture-fest once again, but we got it done and Greyson went off to bed. This morning we did it again using a different mask and explaining that is was "Mist Medicine" (he's really good about taking medicine) it went MUCH better. We changed from the larger Fish Mask to a smaller Duck Mask and that made a bug difference too. I'll try to get photos of us with it all later, but so far it has taken both parents to hold him and the nebulizer.

He's doing better in general today, but whatever this virus is can stay far, far away from my son from now on!

Nebulizers are something I don't carry in my pharmacy so even if I were in KC I wouldn't have been able to help you :( I do carry plenty of the solution though!! (i don't carry them because usually parents rent them from the dr office in my neighborhood).

I'm glad its helping! Wheezing is no good! Did they say anything about the hives? They haven't come back have they? Hives are miserable! Lets hope he is done with those!

Hope he is back to 100% soon!

Sounds so much like Lydia! She caught stinking RSV this season and had to get a nebulizer. I've always been surprised at how well her lungs have been doing these past couple of years.

She was wailing at the doctor's office when she had the first nebulizer treatment! Luckily they had the nebulizers at the doctor's office so all I had to do was pick up the meds from the pharmacy.

We got home that night and there was a bit of a struggle, but after that she wanted to hold it herself too!
