Playthings

Greyson doesn't have a ton of toys (although, it feels like it). Aside from a Horton stuffed animal (of "Hears a Who" fame), he doesn't have many "recognizable character" toys. He doesn't know Elmo from Thomas. He has no clue who Dora and Manny are. The kid is totally uninterested in watching TV. Occasionally, very occasionally, he'll sit on my lap and watch a Sesame Street clip or two.

These are our favorites:

He just isn't interested in TV. Which, I suppose I should be grateful for, but sometimes I wish I could keep him entertained in one place for even 15 min. Oh, well - I don't have that kid.
(He will stop whatever he is doing when the closing credits of Star Trek TNG play. He is fascinated by the music and the scrolling blue text.)

What he is interested in is carrying random objects from one place to another, like shoes, tubes of toothpaste and my hairbrush. We have an old Ice Cream bucket that he likes to tote around.

He also loves books. Oh my gosh, he loves books! We sit and read books several times a day. He carries books around the house and then brings them to me and asks me to read to him by pushing the book in my face. Dr. Seuss board books are the current favorites. I think I read Mr. Brown Can Moo a minimum of 5 times a day.

He's a kid who is happy with a spool of dental floss, an old plastic bowl and an empty Kleenex box...and a stacks of books. The "real toys" sit in their box waiting for him to lose interest in the laundry basket and come play with them. And he will from time to time, but they don't have the "scope for imagination" that the basket and a empty paper towel roll does.

I think that Greyson is Radar's 'brother from another mother'!!! He also doesn't watch tv, also loves books and has all of his very important activities which occupy his full attention and concentration (ie, taking the fake Oreos out of their container and then slamming them back in, wearing mommy's flip-flops, and stealing and hiding mommy's keys).

Currently the only Youtube video that will keep his attention - he's totally captivated by it - is that of a fire truck driving through the streets of NY blasting its siren. It's from a video game and he can watch it ten times. That scares me because I think it's pointing to a future Nascar fan! Oh well...

Has Greyson been swimming lately? That's Radar's other big LOVE and since they seem to share such similar interests...

We haven't taken him swimming yet, but I really want to!
