And the Winner is....

ME!

So last week in our Bradley Class they discussed how important it is to eat lots of protein while pregnant and then described some of the things that can happpen if you are not geeting enough protein. And guess what? The girl with the protein allergy wasn't getting enough protein and was feeling all of those things! (lightheadedness, hunger that cannot be controled, general weakness, etc.) So last week (and for the rest of my pregnancy) I have to write down everything I eat and track how much protein I'm getting. Ideally it would be 75 to 100 grams a day. Prior to last week I was at about 40 grams a day. Last week I averaged 70 grams. Which is still not quite enough, but it was enough to make a HUGE difference in the way I felt.
And as a bonus I ate more protein then anyone else in my class and won some bath soak for after the baby is born. Whoo Hoo.

I think because of my allergy I'm even more diligent about what I eat. And considering I'm halfway through and have only gained a few pounds I'm going to go ahead and eat! This morning I had one Egg, scrambled with cheese on 1/2 an English Muffin and 1 strip of Bacon and a glass of Simply Apple Juice. It's a great breakfast and keeps me full and energized much longer than oatmeal or cereal (my previous breakfast staples).

So, in the protein count, the girl who can't eat a large portion of the proteins is winning and plans to stay ahead. Good protein intake equals healthy, happy babies and mommies!

I'm a big fan of Carnation Instant Breakfast. Have one for mid-morning/ afternoon snack- you'll get protein, calcium, vitamins and some yummy chocolate (or vanilla or strawberry) all in one sitting.
